Preparation of Pharmacists for Public Appointment - Zoom workshop 18 May 2023
Course Outline
The workshop is designed to build the confidence and critical competency interview skills and techniques required to ensure success at interviews using a public appointment process, or equivalent. Participants will learn how to prepare their application in a competency based way and respond to interview questions thus maximising their chances of success.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the training participants will:
- Understand the appointment process
- Know how to complete the application form
- Bring content and structure to answers during interviews
- Use each question as an opportunity to sell themselves
- Create rapport with the interviewers and deliver natural answers
- Control interview nerves and fears
- Sell themselves successfully
Our event training partner is Una McSorley, Director of Marcomm, a training and development consultancy. Marcomm provides consultancy to chief executives, their boards and management teams

Pharmacy Champion 2-part training event
As a pharmacy champion you will be actively involved in the Pharmacy Futures NI campaign to Attract, Recruit, Retain pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Pharmacy Forum NI are hosting training across two evening events to provide an insight into the role of a pharmacy champion. You will also have the opportunity to network in-person with other pharmacy champions.
Part 1: Wednesday 26 April 7.30pm – 9.30pm
Part 2: Wednesday 10 May, 7.30pm – 9.30pm
Doors open 6.45pm. Light refreshments will be available and there will be the opportunity to network before the event commences.
Where: The HSC Leadership Centre, The Beeches, 12 Hampton Manor, Belfast BT7 3EN (both evenings)

This in-person workshop is the final part of the Foundation Training Calculations Revision Course 2023
Note: only those already registered for the full course can book the workshop
Before attending this in-person session you must complete the pre-coursework practice questions and have watched the teaching videos. This ensures you get the best from this session.
At this workshop you will complete further practice questions to apply your learning. It will also give you the opportunity to address anything you do not understand or want clarified in relation to the practice questions or calculations course.

At this workshop you will complete further practice questions to apply your learning. It will also give you the opportunity to address anything you do not understand or want clarified in relation to the practice questions or calculations course.
REGISTRATION : Foundation Training 2-Step Calculations Course 2023
This course will cover a broad range of pharmaceutical calculations designed to help you prepare for the calculation section of the Common Registration Assessment. Our expert facilitators will show you how to tackle calculations and will be on-hand during the in-person workshop to deal with any questions or problems that you may have.
The course fee is £40.00 paid via PayPal at the end of this registration process
There are two parts
Step-1 Complete Pre-coursework (30 questions) and watch teaching videos to support pre-coursework questions
Step-2 Attend an in-person workshop to complete further practice questions guided by the facilitators
Currently two workshop dates are available - attend either Saturday 13 May or Saturday 20 May, 9.30am - 3.00pm.
Register now and then you can book your workshop place early to get your preferred date as places are limited. Note all pre-course work is essential.

Insulin Safety in Community Pharmacy: Webinar 3 Series summary and applying the learning
Aim of series: to promote a systematic approach which explores how preventable harm can be reduced by well understood and designed systems and practices, focusing on the high risk medicine insulin; Creating a fresh perspective and learning opportunity that can be applied and adopted across any area of community pharmacy
Part 3: Series summary and applying the learning
In the final webinar of ‘ A Systematic Approach to Insulin Safety in Community Pharmacy’ we will demonstrate how using a combination of the SEIPS Framework and the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors’ ‘Guidance on Design of Effective Work Procedures’ can enhance existing procedures related to insulin safety
Learning Outcomes
Be able to:
- Reflect on the role of Standard Operating Procedures in risk management.
- Understand other factors that contribute to safety management including learning from adverse events.
- Recognise that all of these factors are best served by taking a systems approach.
- ‘Take home’ a toolkit/ care bundle to assess work practices that support safe supply of insulin.

Insulin Safety in Community Pharmacy: Webinar 2 SEIPS - the Swiss army knife of human factors

Part 2: SEIPS – The Swiss Army Knife of Human Factors
SEIPS (Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety) is arguably the best known and most published systems-based Human Factors framework in health care worldwide. We will apply SEIPS to an insulin dispensing incident to understand the interacting system factors and how this can be used to guide areas for improvement.
Learning Outcomes
Be able to:
- Understand the principles of the SEIPS framework. Specifically: what is meant by process and what is meant by interactions.
- Describe the components of the SEIPS framework and demonstrate understanding of how interactions influence care processes and contribute to system outcomes.
- Apply the SEIPS framework to an insulin dispensing incident.
- Based on the outputs of the SEIPS modelling, identify areas for improvement of the insulin dispensing work system.
- Identify additional development needs to undertake a SEIPS analysis.
