Julie Magee

Lead Pharmacist, Care of Older People, Northern Health and Social Care Trust

Julie graduated with a MPharm degree at Queen’s University Belfast and registered as a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (NI) in 2006.  She worked as a Community Pharmacist for eight months before taking up a Clinical Pharmacist post in Antrim Area Hospital in 2007.

Julie continues to work in NHSCT where she registered as an independent prescriber in 2013. She completed her Masters in Clinical Pharmacy with distinction in September 2016 and successfully completed the Clinical Leadership in Pharmacy Programme in 2018. She has worked on the Care of Older People/Stroke ward for several years and is currently the Lead Pharmacist for Older People in NHSCT. Her role involves carrying out medication review and deprescribing, counselling patients and providing advice to members of the MDT.

In addition, Julie is the pharmacy representative on the NHSCT dysphagia group. She attends clinics and reviews policies relevant to her area, attends governance meetings and has responsibility for her ward areas in the hospital. She also provides training to pharmacy staff on Parkinson’s disease, Stroke and medication review and is assigned as a mentor for the Foundation Programme and Advanced Practice Pharmacists.
