At Pharmacy Forum NI’s March 2021 webinar, the keynote presenter, Mark Fenton, reminded us that ‘difference is the difference that makes the difference’. This phrase rang true again at our third and final webinar, which took place in advance of International Day of People with Disabilities, 3 December, and focused on the theme ‘Dealing with disability in pharmacy: Are we doing enough?’
Held 23 November, the webinar featured testimonies by two pharmacists who spoke of their experience of mental and physical disabilities as well as presentations from Action Mental Health (AMH), Disability Action NI, our EDI partner the Equality Commission NI, and the Northern Ireland Rare Disease Partnership (NIRDP).

EDI Webinar 1: The case for inclusion and handling race in NI pharmacy - 23 March 2021
There was huge turnout and overwhelmingly positive feedback for Pharmacy Forum NI’s first webinar on Diversity & Inclusion in NI Pharmacy – Creating the right Culture, which took place 23 March on the theme: The case for inclusion and handling race. Almost 70 participants joined, with 98% indicating in the event poll that they found it of excellent or very good value.

Marking 1 March, Zero Discrimination Day, Pharmacy Forum NI launched its new initiative aimed at advancing, encouraging and supporting Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) in the Northern Ireland pharmacy workplace.
As part of the launch, the Forum is organising throughout 2021 a 3-part EDI CPD webinar series – Diversity & Inclusion in NI Pharmacy – Creating the right Culture. The first of these is on Tuesday 23 March @7-8:30pm focusing on the theme: The case for inclusion and handling race.

In an interview with C+D, Chair of Pharmacy Forum NI, Sheelin McKeagney said “it is key to ensure BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) team members feel safe in pharmacy…” The article references the EDI Forum Working Group being set up to actively promote inclusion and diversity in pharmacies in Northern Ireland.
